How to dispose of expired or unused medication.
Flushing expired medication is no longer
the acceptable means of disposal.
Follow the steps below to properly
dispose of your expired medication:
-
Take unused or expired medication from the
original container.
-
Mix the medication with an undesirable substance,
such as coffee grounds or cat litter.
-
Put the mixture in an empty can or sealable bag
and throw in the trash.
Some drugs should still be flushed because of
possible abuse potential. The drugs that should
still be flushed are: Actiq, Daytrana, Duragesic,
Oxycontin, Avinza, Baraclude, Reyataz, Tequin,
Zerit, Meperidine, Percocet, Xyrem, Fentora, and the
generics of the above named medications.
